Speed is ironically an artsy picture. When the first bus blows up at the beginning of the film, we are introduced to the villain through a ringing pay phone, reflecting the flames like a greeting card from the devil. Extra care is taken to violent details. You have to suspend disbelief that a bus can crash through an exit ramp at 50 miles per hour, but the idea itself is all fun.
